Smooth Relaxing and Easy Show #75 with Eric O'Brien

Wow! It’s unbelievable that my show has lasted this long. Of course, if you’re counting the way I am it seems a lot longer than it really has been – by the weeks, it’s 75; by months, just 17! This Friday, October 27 at 1:00 p.m. is the 75 th program for Smooth, Relaxing and Easy. (It will re-air Monday, October 30 at 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 31 at 8:00 a.m. I don’t have anything special planned for the program, but I want to thank those who listen on a regular basis. Doing this program really is not about an ego for me as much as it is providing the world with music that refreshes the soul. This format (at least one similar to it… I’d like to think of put my own spin on it) used to be prevalent on the FM dial. Unfortunately, younger listeners felt it was their parents’ music or associated it with riding an elevator or having a root canal, and eventually advertisers felt that it wasn’t hitting their target demos. I personally feel that instrumental music with the occasional vocal mixed in, is a perfect recipe for relaxation. In today’s society I think relaxation is more necessary than ever. On SRE I try to avoid politics and other stress-inducing topics and provide an aural escape for two hours each week. Our new shows premiere every Friday at 1 o’clock… just as you are about to wind down your work week. Our re-air on Monday at 6 o’clock in the evening provides solace after that start-of- the-work- week Monday feeling that you always get. And the Tuesday 8:00 a.m. re-air gives you that boost in case Tuesday is disguising itself is Monday.

I thank the board of WMCK.FM for giving me the outlet for SRE. It truly is a labor of love and an opportunity for me each week to do radio the way that I’ve always wanted to do it. Thank you to the listeners, whether regular or occasional, for tuning in and hopefully enjoying it. (And please don’t forget to join us on our Facebook page!)

Oh! Let me not forget more note of thanks to Warren Schroeger. Warren worked with the format in itsheyday and has shared some cuts of music, advice about the show, and even his voice! You hear Warren’s creative prowess with the sweepers four times an hour! I think without his sage advice, I might have given up!
